20 Years Special Education/Collaborative Education Instruction

13 Years Dance Team Instruction

My name is Tiffany Gillespie.  I have been teaching in the field of special education for twenty years...the same number of years that I have been married to my husband, Joey Gillespie.  I taught special education at Clanton Middle School from 1993-2000.  In 2001, I began teaching  Job Training/Transition classes at both Clanton Middle School and Jemison High School. After my daughter was born in 2003, I accepted a full-time position in special education/collaborative education at Jemison High School.  It has truly been an honor to have the opportunity to teach at my high school alma mater for the past several years. In addition to teaching special education/collaborative education, I  have been equally privileged to instruct Jemison High School's Dance Team since 2000.

To date, the highlights of my career have been receiving Chilton County Special Olympics' Teacher of the Year in 1997, witnessing the JHS Dance Team win "Best in Class" awards at various local and regional band competitions for the past thirteen consecutive years, and seeing the ecstatic faces of many of my students after they successfully obtained  Standard, Curriculum-Based and/or Occupational Diplomas against insurmountable odds.  My philosophy of education can be summed up by two simple quotes, "Hitch your wagon to a star..." by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and "Be a winner" by Wendell "Bubba" Hays, my beloved father.
